Trepidation by Daisy Asiimwe
Your eyes wide, eyes open
Move them side to side
For darkness has many
things to hide
Check around you, don’t
make a sound
It's there
You see your being watched
Frozen to the spot
You begin to feel hot
You can tell your trembling
It seems to notice you
Now here it comes
This...this apparition as
it stalks towards you
Its eyes gleaming hungrily, as you fidget
with agitation
Looking in vain for the nonexistent exit
Finish your reading
Check your knowledge twice
Because you know this
isn’t about to be easy or nice
Here they come papers in
hand
Take a deep breath ‘’I
hope I understand’’
You open the booklet
cautiously slow
For you are unaware of the
questions, you will unfold
The words jump at you
Grip you tight with hold
They've trapped you
You feel all the knowledge
-
Has disappeared as you think of all
the things you potentially left unread
You frantically try to
yank your thoughts back
Fighting back the urge to
scream
                                      Then realization
hits you like a blow
I can't do this
This is impossible for
me!!
There gazes are on you
Lying in wait
Just for the right time
For you to make a mistake
To trip or fall or say the
wrong words
All these thoughts are absurd
Yet those chances are 0
Then the unthinkable
Off you go head over heels
Face flat on the floor
They gaze at you their faces,
remorseful
But you don’t let yourself
be fooled
You can see the cunning
beneath those sympathetic eyes
They cackle like witches
Howling like dogs
Eyes malicious
Staring, Judging
What have I done?
But no matter what you do.
If only it wasn’t true
You can't always run from
the things that frighten you.
But at the same time, you
may not be able to run at it either.
No not at those awful
creatures
But courage isn’t a
feeling it’s a choice
I think now it's my time
And soon it will be yours
Let us be brave
Good luck to you all
